ABSTRACT: The occurrence of educational reforms in almost all western countries has the aim of introducing changes in the teaching of different subjects namely in sciences. International periodic publications specialized in science education reveal an increase of articles of experiences associated with the implementation of educational reforms. The objectives of these articles are on the one hand to contribute to detecting difficulties and obstacles related to the system where one intends to implement these changes and on the other hand to propose strategies and resources capable of meeting the needs and overcome any obstacles that may arise. It is in this context that we carry out the present study. Bearing in mind the forthcoming curricular reform announced by the Ministry of Education in 1997 a training programme in the teaching of experimental sciences was drawn up. The aims of this programme were to train teachers in the innovative teaching of sciences and to serve as advisors to those teachers that were not on the programme. The group of teachers who participated in the first training programme served as the population in study. The following question constitutes the problem of this research work “What is the nature and impact of the training proposal experienced by the participant teachers?”. In the methodological point of view the training aims, as well as its epistemological and methological context was analysed. Then a questionnaire was done. Of the 31 teachers that made up the population in study 23 answered this questionnaire. By analysing the obtained data we were informed of what teachers say to be their practice (as teachers and as advisors to fellow teachers) and of the impact that the training action had on them. The results indicate that there were changes in the teaching practices at various levels with special emphasis on the approach to practical work in sciences. Nevertheless these same results highlight the importance of various factors that condition the changes that one wants to implement. For example the ones related the running of the school organisation (as for as its physical, administrative and social structures are concerned) which can restrict the complex process of the introduction of chances in the teaching of sciences. |
