Anfípodes da plataforma continental portuguesa

Abstract

O presente trabalho aborda o estudo das comunidades de anfípodes resultante da campanha MESHAtlantic (Mapping European Seabeds Habitats) ao longo da Plataforma Continental Portuguesa. Este trabalho visa contribuir para o conhecimento das comunidades de anfípodes na plataforma nomeadamente na região entre Ovar e Nazaré entre os 25 e 145m de profundidade. Foram identificadas 80 espécies em 1981 indivíduos recolhidos em 138 locais de amostragem. Destes, 2 locais não têm macrofauna e 13 locais não contem anfípodes. As espécies mais abundantes foram Socarnes erythrophthalmus e Apherusa bispinosa e as mais frequentes Ampelisca brevicornis, Ampelisca spinipes e Lembos longipes. Foi possível identificar 4 grupos de afinidade faunística com uma distribuição espacial coerente: um grupo localizado preferencialmente entre os 25-100m de profundidade caracterizado por sedimentos grosseiros e pelas espécies Socarnes erythrophthalmus e Apherusa bispinosa, 2 grupos caracterizado por sedimentos finos e pelas espécies Ampelisca spinipes, Lembos longipes e Ampelisca brevicornis, Urothoe pulchella respetivamente, e um grupo caracterizado por sedimentos médios e pelas espécies Leucothoe incisa e Urothoe marina. A representação da Abundância (A), a Riqueza específica (S) e a distribuição dos grupos de afinidade biológica pela área de estudo apontou para maiores valores de abundância e riqueza específica para o grupo de sedimentos mais grosseiros e localizado a menores profundidades e os grupos faunísticos que apresentam menores valores de abundância e/ou riqueza específica são os grupos associados a sedimentos mais finos e a maiores profundidades. A maioria das espécies recolhidas neste estudo reflete o que foi amostrado em trabalhos anteriores na Plataforma Continental Portuguesa no que diz respeito a preferência de granulometria e profundidade.

This present work describes the study of communities of amphipods resulting from the campaign MESHAtlantic (Mapping European Habitats Seabeds) along the Portuguese Continental Shelf. This work aims to contribute to the knowledge of the communities of amphipods in the shelf mainly in the region Nazaré - Ovar between 25 and 145m of depth. 80 species were identified in 1981 individuals collected from 138 samples. From those 2 locations doesn´t have macrofauna and 13 contain no amphipods. The most abundant species are Socarnes erythrophthalmus and Apherusa bispinosa and the most frequent Ampelisca brevicornis, Ampelisca spinipes and Lembos longipes. 4 affinity groups were identified with a consistent spatial distribution: one group located between 25-100m deep characterized by coarse sediments and with the species Socarnes erythrophthalmus and Apherusa bispinosa, 2 grups characterized by fine sediments and with the species Ampelisca spinipes, Lembos longipes and Ampelisca brevicornis, Urothoe pulchella respectively and the last grupo characterized by medium sediments and the species Leucothoe incisa and Urothoe marina. The representation of Abundance (A), Species richness (S) and the distribution of affinity groups in the study area pointed to higher abundance and species richness for the group with coarser sediments located at lowest depth and the groups that have lower values of abundance and/or species richness are associated to finer sediments and greater depths. Most species collected in this study reflects what was sampled in previous studies in Portuguesa Continental Shelf regarding the preference of particle size of the sediment and depth.
