do ar de secagem.
The global energetic outlook and the growing awareness among public opinion about energetic issues, have lead to an improvement of the energetic efficiency within the industrial sector. The ceramic tile industry also fallowed the same trend and faced huge developments in the last decades; however is still room for further improvement. The present work intends to analyze the viability of using recovered heat from a roller hearth kiln to completely fulfill the energetic needs of the drying process happening before firing, without natural gas consumption. The main objective of the present study is to evaluate the possibility of totally of partially deactivate a continuous roller tile dryer placed at the entrance of the kiln trough the reactivation of an existing tunnel dryer. The current dryer uses both recovered heat from the kiln and natural gas burners to heat drying air up to nearly 200 ºC, resulting in a drying time of less than 4min. The tunnel dryer is fed solely by recovered hot air from the kiln, and can reach the maximum temperature of 90ºC , requiring a drying time longer than 3 hours. The first step of this work was the development of experimental work in order to gather information about the drying kinetics of porcelain stoneware. The Lewis model with two different drying stages fits the drying data with good results. The next step was the development of a numerical model to represent the tunnel dryer operation through the discretization of differential equations representing the heat and mass transfer of the processes, using the finite volume method, a power law scheme for treating the convective term and a implicit method for the transient term. The dryer model was implemented by means of the software Matlab2008b® and was then used to test 3 different situations in which would be available, respectively 100 %, 75% and 50% of the 0,9 s of available hot air from the kiln. It was concluded that the second configuration, considering the maximum operation temperature permitted to the tunnel dryer, would minimize the exit material moisture content. The results have shown that, if one can guarantee that the activated dryer is fed with at least 0,675 Kgs of recycled air to heat drying air, it can virtually replace the continuous roller dryer, allowing a reduction of the natural gas consumption of the studied plant. |
