The Pilgrimage of Fernão Mendes Pinto, a chronicle in which the interpenetration of cultures reveals the social and cultural elevation of the peoples here and abroad

Abstract

Through the outline of a set of cultural and artistic events, the Maritime Museum of Ílhavo and the Municipality of Ílhavo, in their recreational aspects, develop various cultural projects, among them, the restoration of the Cine-Concerto “Heroes of the Sea” (1949), in partnership with the Gafanhense Philharmonic Orchestra and some elements of the Community, under the direction of Alexandre Sampaio. In order to recover and disseminate a material and immaterial heritage of great importance, some performers took the film “Heroes of the Sea” and give birth to a community project that bring up the first known national fiction film with a narrative around cod fishing. This project, taking form since 2003, seeks to recover and disseminate the original film by Fernando Garcia in a cine-concert formula. Our article aims to expose the creative process of this project and all the procedure to put the Cine-concert “Heróis do Mar” in the context of a community project. It will bring us the opportunity to discuss also the importance of the Rádio Faneca Event, inserted in the 23 Milhas on the 12th of June 2022. Identifying the most relevant elements of the entire process, in order to produce interpretive dubbing and sound effects is the target. Analyzing the molds of its creation will permit us to distinguish the role of the community in this project. It also will be possible to identify how some aspects of local and regional history are present in the narrative, sounds and images.
