As atividades desenvolvidas durante o estágio permitiram utilizar e consolidar as competências adquiridas durante o ano curricular do Mestrado em Estatística Médica. This curricular internship was carried out within the scope of the Master in Medical Statistics at the University of Aveiro and it aims to describe the activities carried out during the curricular internship at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP). During the internship, there was the opportunity to follow some projects developed at ISPUP, making it possible to deepen the statistical knowledge acquired during the academic path. Furthermore, the internship allowed the development of technical skills in data programming and statistics. The main objective of the internship was to create an interactive tool, using the Shiny package provided by RStudio. This tool makes it possible to analyze and compare the application, by European Union countries, of mitigation measures over time, with the aim of controlling the spread of the virus. Furthermore, it was possible to compare the results obtained with the reference values (Stringency Index). The data used were collected by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). To these data was applied hierarchical principal component analysis, aggregating the different response measures. This internship was important to recall some knowledge acquired during the Master in Medical Statistics. It was also important to be able to work with real data; it was necessary to overcome some obstacles, which allowed a skills maturation and led to the learning of new methodologies. |
