Imigração em Portugal : desafios de integração e cidadania numa sociedade multicultural

Abstract

A razão do nosso trabalho parte de uma nova realidade. A experiência recente de Portugal como país de imigração, devido a factores de globalização, da internacionalização da economia portuguesa e da sua integração na União Europeia. Tradicionalmente de um país de emigração, Portugal só a partir de meados dos anos 70 passou a ser um pólo de atracção para os trabalhadores migrantes Este estudo inclui um esboço geral de como reagiu Portugal às novas comunidades, a sua integração associada a mudanças estruturais bem como ao comportamento demográfico, assim como encontrar melhores políticas de imigração que são um desafio à integração e cidadania dos imigrantes.

ABSTRACT: The reason of this work was that Portugal’s experience as an immigration country remains a relatively recent phenomenon, in step with the internationalisation of the Portuguese economy and the country’s integration in the European Union. Traditionally an emigration country, it was only by the mid- 1970s that Portugal passed from being a labour source for the more developed parts to welcoming foreign workers itself. This study includes a general sketch of how immigration to Portugal is motivated by new communities, the integration of them associated with changes in family structures and in the demographic behaviour of families themselves, and find better immigration politics that are a challenge to the integration and citizenship of the immigrants.
