O universo modal de Miles Davis em Kind of Blue (1959): revisitação e exploração criativa e artística contemporânea

Abstract

O lançamento, em 1959, de Kind of Blue revelou a modalidade como uma ferramenta criativa inteiramente nova que proporcionou aos músicos um alcance expressivo e musical sem precedentes, no desenvolvimento da improvisação aos níveis melódico, harmónico e rítmico. Este trabalho, foca-se no jazz modal, na sua conceção e no seu desenvolvimento. Procura dar respostas à criação de música modal num contexto temporal recente. Indica como o tema surge em várias publicações de referência académica. Analisa o envolvimento e influencias que os companheiros de Miles Davis tiveram no desenvolvimento da modalidade e do som do sexteto. Apresenta cinco composições originais, baseadas na modalidade de Davis e dos seus companheiros, usadas no recital final do Mestrado em Música, ramo performance jazz.

The 1959 release of Kind of Blue revealed the modality as an entirely new creative tool that gave musicians unprecedented expressive and musical reach in the development of improvisation at the melodic, harmonic and rhythmic levels. This work focuses on modal jazz, its conception and development. It seeks to provide answers to the creation of modal music in a recent temporal context. It indicates how the theme arises in various academic reference publications. It reveals the degree of involvement and influence that Miles Davis' teammates had in the development of the modality and the sound of the sextet. It features five original compositions, based on the modality of Davis and his companions that are used in the final concert of the Masters course.
