O tom das narrativas na criação de valor das empresas portuguesas cotadas

Abstract

Devido à importância dos relatórios de gestão e em virtude de se considerar a existência de conteúdo informativo no sentimento dos gestores ao transmitir a mensagem às partes interessadas, este estudo tem como objetivo analisar o tom das narrativas sobre o risco na criação de valor das empresas portuguesas cotadas. Para tanto, exploramos os relatórios de risco e de gestão de risco do ano de 2018 das empresas pertencentes ao setor não financeiro de Portugal. Neste estudo, estimouse a relação entre o tom e o valor de mercado, empregando o Q de Tobin como proxy de desempenho de mercado. Para a análise do tom do discurso, utilizou-se o programa DICTION. Constatamos que o tom dos relatos sobre o risco está associado ao valor da empresa e que quanto mais proeminente for o uso de palavras que caracterizam o tom Activity, menor será o valor empresarial.

Due to the importance of management reports and because of the consider the existence of informative content in the feeling of managers in transmitting the message to interested parties, this study aims to analyze the tone of the narratives about the risk in creating value of listed Portuguese companies. To this end, we explored the risk and risk management reports for 2018 of companies belonging to the nonfinancial sector in Portugal. In this study, the relationship between tone and market value was estimated, using Tobin's Q as a proxy for market performance. To analyze the tone of the speech, the DICTION program was used. We found that the tone of the risk reports is associated with the company's value and that the more prominent the use of words that characterize the tone "Activity", the lower the business value.
