Considerações históricas e interpretativas sobre a serenata La Pace Fra la Virtù e la Bellezza, de David Perez

Abstract

O foco desta pesquisa é a serenata La Pace fra la Virtù e la Bellezza, escrita em 1777 pelo compositor napolitano David Perez sobre libreto de Pietro Metastasio, e destinada às celebrações do aniversário da rainha de Portugal, D. Maria I. Nela são discutidas as caracterísitcas do gênero serenata e a sua presença em Portugal no século XVIII, assim como as condições que propiciaram a gênese do texto e da música da obra estudada. Para além da pesquisa histórica, esta pesquisa procurou descobrir e superar os desafios que se apresentam para a performance desta obra no que se refere à prática da Direção. Para sustentar teoricamente a abordagem interpretativa, são discutidos os aspectos construtivos e expressivos da escrita de David Perez e relacionados, na medida do possível, a práticas interpretativas encontradas em tratados da época de sua composição. Por fim, são apresentados os critérios a partir dos quais foi elaborada uma edição prática da obra.

The focus of this research is the serenata La Pace fra la Virtù e la Bellezza, written in 1777 by the Neapolitan composer David Perez on Pietro Metastasio's libretto, and intended for the birthday’s celebrations of Maria I, Queen of Portugal. It discusses the characteristics of the serenata genre and its presence in Portugal in the eighteenth century, as well as the conditions that provided the genesis of the text and music of the studied work. In addition to the historical research, this project sought to discover and overcome the challenges that are presented for the performance of this work regarding the practice of Conducting. To theoretically support the interpretative approach, the constructive and expressive aspects of the composer's writing are discussed, and as far as possible related to the interpretative practices found in treatises of the time of its composition. Finally, the criteria that sustained the practical edition of the work, which made its study and performance possible, are presented.
