Raúl Brandão pintor da miséria : para uma estética da condição humana

Abstract

O presente trabalho, partindo da consideração da estética como uma das vias de acesso ao conhecimento do mundo, e de produção e revelação da sua verdade, propõe-se mostrar que, na obra de Raul Brandão, se estabelece uma correlação entre ética e estética, em que o autor, ao assumir a dignidade como atributo essencial a salvaguardar no homem, terá constituído uma vinculação ontológica entre ambas, razão pela qual nos aparecem como o verso e o reverso de uma mesma realidade. Defendemos que a sua escrita, dialogicamente fragmentada, se constrói como experiência do mundo (do mal no mundo), particularmente da miséria a que os pobres estavam condenados; situação que estará na origem do cultivo e do aprofundamento da sua sensibilidade, pela via da compaixão e da solidariedade. A questão social impõe-se como a questão fundamental da sua obra, que é atravessada de uma ponta à outra pela dor e pelo grito – as expressões estéticas mais fortes e significativas – num registo em que a escrita se configura como luta da memória contra o esquecimento, contra a amnésia da história, e que é a sua forma rigorosa de produzir a verdade.

ABSTRACT: The present work, starting with the consideration of the aesthetics as one of the pathways to knowledge of the world, and of production and revelation of its truth, proposes to point out that, in Raul Brandão’s work, a correlation between ethics and aesthetics is established, where the author, by assuming dignity as an essential attribute to safeguard in men, has settled an ontological link between them, which is the reason why they appear as the verse and the reverse of the same reality. We argue that his writing, dialogically fragmented, builds itself as an experience of the world (of world’s evil), particularly of misery to which poor were condemned; this situation was the source of his sensibility growth and intensification, by means of compassion and solidarity. The social matter imposes itself as the main point in his work, laid across by pain and scream from the beginning to the end – the strongest and most remarkable aesthetic expressions – in a perspective where writing configures itself as a fight of memory against forgetfulness, against amnesia of history, being its rigorous way of producing truth.
