Induced pluripotent stem cells: tradução e terminologia

Abstract

Nos dias de hoje existe uma controvérsia enorme em torno do uso de células estaminais provenientes do cordão umbilical e das células estaminais de fetos. Esta é uma controvérsia com a qual os cientistas têm lidado todos os dias. Agora existe um tipo células em tudo semelhante às células estaminais, no entanto, estas não provêm de células estaminais de fetos ou do cordão umbilical, mas sim de células maduras – células da pele. De forma a conciliar a necessidade de realizar um projeto de tradução especializada com a vontade de divulgar um tema tão importante em língua portuguesa, optou-se por escolher uma obra científica recente sobre este tipo de células como texto de partida. Portugal possui um dos melhores, senão o melhor, centro de pesquisa a nível mundial, Champalimaud. Este centro, preferencialmente em inglês, o Centro de Investigação a par com outros, trabalha pelo que as pessoas pouco familiarizadas com esta língua podem ter dificuldades na compreensão destes textos, e por isso urge a necessidade de haver textos em português que possam auxiliar essas pessoas. A tradução deste livro levou à criação de uma base de dados terminológica, ainda não acabada, devido à sua linguagem altamente técnica. A base de dados terminológica poderá ser útil para o público-alvo tal como para outros tradutores em traduções sobre um tema similar. O presente relatório tem como objetivo mostrar cada uma das fases de tradução realizadas, desde a escolha do tema, o processo de tradução, as dificuldades, os recursos utilizados, acabando com uma reflexão crítica sobre o projeto.

Nowadays there is a huge controversy surrounding the use of stem cells from the umbilical cord and fetal stem cells. This is a controversy with which scientists have dealt every day. But now there is a type of cell that is similar to the stem cells. However, they do not originate from fetal stem cells or from the umbilical cord, but from mature cells - skin cells. In order to promote this recently issue there was the need of doing something, in Portuguese, addressing to this cell type. Portugal has one of the best, if not the best, research center in the world, the Champalimaud Research Centre. Because the official working language of this center is the English language all the work is published in English and for the people less familiarized with the language that can be difficult. Therefore there is the need of having papers in Portuguese that can aid that people. The translation of this book led to the creation of a terminology database due to its highly technical language. This database can be useful for the audience as for other translators dealing with a similar theme. This report aims to show each step taken, from the choice of the theme, the translation process, the difficulties, the resources used, ending with a critical reflection on the project.
