propriedades papeleiras.
papeleiro.
A segunda parte
The pulp and paper industry plays an important role in the portuguese economy. The Eucalyptus globulusreached a significant notoriety because of its excelent papermaking properties. Therefore, maintaining the quality of the leached pulp becomes very important for the daily life of pulp factories, particularly for integrated factories. This thesis focuses on one of the most frequently monitored aspects which is associated with the leached pulps refinability, more specifically, for Eucalytus globulus kraft pulps. There‟s the evidence that variations on leached pulp‟s refinability affects its regularity, which indirectly affects the variability of the paper production process and, consequently, leads to spend great amounts of energy in order to reach the desired properties, affecting, obviously, the economy of the papermaking industry. Facing this scenario, the purpose of this thesis is to identify the primary physicochemical properties of the fibers that are at the origin of the variation of leached pulp‟s refinability. To do this, two different leached pulps were collected, from similar conditions but with very different refinability characteristcs. Initially, the papermaking properties of these pulps were characterized, in order to quantify the existing refinabilty differences between them. The second consisted on the chractrization of all chemical and physicochemical parameters which may be associated with refinability. The main conclusion of this work is that the hemicelluloses content accessible on leached pulp, its structure and its occurrence on the fibril cell wall determine the refinement operation and affects pulp‟s properties. The elimination of the significant part of xilanas accessible on the pulp during the baking process harms the swell capacity of the pulp during refinement. At the same time, this action increases the micro-fibrils integration on the pulp and their partial cocrystallization, which reduces the pulp‟s refinement ability. The occurrence of xilanas on the fibre cell wall is another important factor on the refinement ability of the pulp. The decrease of xilanas content accessible on the fibre, as well as the smaller xilanas ramification degree with uronic groups, difficults the refinement process. |
