Questões de género em Estórias de Dentro de Casa, de Germano Almeida

Abstract

Este trabalho procura apresentar a obra de Germano Almeida como um documento fundamental para a compreensão das questões de género em Cabo Verde, mostrando também o modo como a produção literária do autor representa uma rutura na tradição literária cabo-verdiana. Mostra-se ainda a forma habilidosa como o retrato da vida doméstica vai sendo enriquecido com referências a fatores externos que propiciam a construção de uma realidade literária de grande credibilidade e realismo. As personagens estão fortemente inseridas num meio e numa cultura, onde reconhecemos preconceitos, práticas, hábitos e factos históricos. Na ficção, entrevemos razões históricas, tradições, que não retiram qualquer brilho à narrativa literária, antes lhe dão outro substrato, a que se vem juntar o olhar fino e irónico do narrador.

This paper seeks to present the work of Germano Almeida as a key document for understanding the gender issue in Cape Verde, and how the author's literary production represents a breakthrough in the literary tradition of Cape Verde. It also shows how skilfully the picture of domestic life is continually enriched with references to external factors to build a reality of great literary credibility and realism. The characters are strongly embedded in an environment, in a culture where we recognize prejudices, practices, customs and historical facts. In fiction, we glimpse historical reasons and traditions, which do not take away any brilliance of the literary narrative, but rather give it another substance and contour, to which the keen and ironic eye of the narrator is added.
