(seis homens e cinco mulheres) e 11 psicólogas.
afetiva-relacional e técnico-instrumental. Com este estudo, esperamos suscitar
novos interesses acerca desta temática e desencadear a realização de novas
investigações na área. Além disso, procuramos sensibilizar a sociedade em
geral e todos os(as) profissionais de saúde para a importância do cuidado a
este grupo social. Recent studies have shown that HIV infection has increased in the elderly adults. This increase stems largely from the improved quality of life, the evolution and treatment and of later sexuality, through the use of medication. However there is a significant gap of studies in this area, especially in the Portuguese reality. Based on the exposure, we conducted this study with the objective of knowing lived, approaches and meanings of caring for older adults with HIV/AIDS, in the perspective of health professionals. To approach to the subject, we turned to qualitative research, focusing on oral story. 22 health professionals, 11 nurses (six men and five women) and 11 psychologists participated in this study. Data collection was performed using a semistructured interview, being ethical principles respected. The categorization of data was developed through content analysis, with the support of the QSR NVivo. Based on data analysis, three categories emerged: experiences of caring for people with HIV/AIDS, approaches to care for people with HIV/AIS and their families and the different meanings of caring for people with HIV/AIDS. The main results show that professionals have seen the experience of caring for people with HIV/AIDS as positive. Over the years, they lived with several challenges: lack of knowledge, mixed feelings, prejudice and stigma associated with the disease, fear of contagion, coping with death and live with risk situations and with different and heterogeneous social groups. The health care is characterized by being multi-centred in the person with HIV/AIDS and in his/her totality, and family. The meanings of care covered three dimensions: cognitive, affective/relational and technical/instrumental. With this study, we hope to raise a new range of interests about this subject and to trigger new research work in this area. Besides that, we also tried to make society at large as well as all health professionals aware of the importance of taking care of this social group |
