INE.
Information disclosure through the Internet has shown a remarkable and global increase in the last years, so that it is now a factor of innovation to access information, in particular, statistical information. Based on management perspectives and strategies concerning innovation, human behaviour as concerns information search and the respective models, and the Internet role in statistical information disclosure, this research aims at analysing the utilization of this kind of information (spread through the Internet) to support business management. Therefore, analyses of foreign National Institutes of Statistics, namely Statistics Netherlands and Statistics Canada, and a case study of the Portuguese National Statistical Institute (INE), have been made. In all cases, the services offered through their respective websites have been evaluated. A comparison between STATLINE, CANSIM and INFOLINE services, offered, respectively, by the Dutch, Canadian and Portuguese Institutes, has also been made. As concerns the Portuguese case, a survey on companies, potential users of the INFOLINE service, has been implemented. The results suggest that the companies use the Internet to gather statistical information about potential consumers, about their competitors and about the markets, in order to formulate/modify and support their management strategies. |
