This study aims to analyze the construction of the interpersonal meaning of Shein brand banners and how they influence consumer choices. Taking as reference the meta functions proposed by Halliday (2006), the present work focuses particularly on the interpersonal function, in the sense of understanding how language is used to establish relationships and influence the attitude of others. To this analysis is also added the perspective of Kress and van Leeuwen regarding the function performed by the images, a fundamental element in the materials analyze the banners and justification for the multimodal analysis that is intended to be carried out. The corpus consists of 25 banners, collected between January and March 2023.After analyzing the data collected, it was noticed that, in linguistic resources, the use of the imperative mood is more common, because it stimulates consumer action; while the primary function of visual resources is to provide a closer relationship between the brand, the featured product or the value proposition and potential consumers. |
