Cross motion: para multi-percussão solo

Abstract

Cross motion (Movimento cruzado), para multi-percussão solo, explora o movimento alternado e rápido entre um instrumento de altura definida (marimba) e um set de percussões de altura indefinida (3 timbalões suspensos, 3 gongos de mão [ópera chinesa] e um timbalão de chão [ou surdo]). Trata-se de uma breve peça em forma de estudo que aborda simultaneamente a flexibilidade técnica e a fluência musical entre sons de altura definida e não definida, procurando uma simbiose entre esses dois mundos sonoros, numa narrativa musical integrada. Procurando facilitar o acesso mais amplo possível, o registo da marimba foi limitado às quatro oitavas mais comuns e o set de percussões indefinidas é intencionalmente inespecífico quanto a dimensões dos instrumentos, salvaguardando apenas que se devem escolher três alturas claramente distintas (grave / médio / agudo) quer para os timbalões suspensos, como para os gongos de mão. Cross motion, for solo multi-percussionist, explores the alternating and fast movement between a pitched percussion (marimba) and a set of unpitched percussion (3 tom-toms, 3 hand gongs [Chinese opera] and a floor drum [or surdo]). It is a short study piece that simultaneously focuses on the technical flexibility and the musical fluency between pitched and unpitched sounds, seeking a symbiosis between these two sonic worlds in an integrated musical narrative. With the most widespread possible access in mind, the range of the marimba has been limited to the four most common octaves and the set of unpitched percussions is intentionally non-specific as to dimensions of the instruments, providing that three clearly distinct pitches (low / medium / high) should be chosen, both for the tom-toms and for the hand gongs.
