À descoberta da matemática dos guarda-joias do MusA: poliedros

Abstract

No Museu da Universidade de Aveiro (MusA) existe uma coleção de mais de 80 guarda-joias em madeira, doados pelo seu construtor, o Eng. Joaquim Domingos Capela. Muitos dos guarda-joias da coleção tiveram por base conceitos de matemática invulgares na construção deste tipo de peças. Esta dissertação contém a análise e descrição dum conjunto de doze guardajoias da coleção, todos eles envolvendo poliedros. Depois de analisado cada guarda-joias individualmente foi construído um modelo interativo em GeoGebra 3D que permite ao utilizador manipular a peça, visualizando-a de diferentes perspetivas e simulando o processo de abertura e fecho.

The Museum of the University of Aveiro (MusA) hosts a collection of more than 80 wooden jewellery boxes, donated by its builder, Eng. Joaquim Domingos Capela. Many of the jewellery boxes in the collection were based on mathematical concepts which are not usually employed in the construction of this type of pieces. This dissertation contains the analysis and description of a set of twelve jewellery boxes from the collection, all of them involving polyhedra. After analyzing each jewellery box individually, an interactive model was built in GeoGebra 3D that allows the user to manipulate the piece, viewing it from different perspectives and simulating the opening and closing process.
