Pollutants resulting from domestic combustion have harmful effects on public health and cause disturbances in the chemistry of the atmosphere and the climate. Thus, pellets arise as a solid biofuel, consisting essentially of densified biomass, with a consistent quality, presenting a low moisture content, high energy density, homogeneous size and shape, associated to a lower emission of atmospheric pollutants in the combustion process. In view of the repercussions of emissions, it is important to make a comparative study of emissions to atmosphere during pellet burning in a domestic boiler. Pellets are composed of 80% poplar and 20% cereal straw. The poplar wood was obtained under 3 different treatments: fertilization with sewage sludge (BIOSOLIDS), with sludge from a WWTP (MUD) and without fertilization (CONTROL). A flue gas sample has been sampled over time through a greenhouse gas analyzer with the Fourier transform, while particle collection has produced no dilution tunnel coupled to the stack. The operating conditions are the CO2, CO2 and CO emissions, and the temperature in the combustion chamber. The values for CO are used at low combustion temperatures. The concentration of HCl in the gases is associated with the chlorine content present in the biomass, and the lowest concentrations was observed for CONTROL wood. it must be explained by the presence of chlorine in the fertilization that the poplar wood received before the pelletization. The ash content has been shown to be important in the emission factor of the particles. Pellets with higher ash contents were the ones that emitted more particulate material. It was not possible to understand the types of tests that are applied to the chud plantations, having some influence on them, with the exception of the emission of HCl.
