O reportório das bandas filarmónicas dos distritos de Aveiro e Coimbra: análise e estudo da sua evolução desde 1980

Abstract

O presente trabalho de investigação pretende estudar a representação da música portuguesa no reportório das bandas filarmónicas e a sua evolução, nos distritos de Aveiro e Coimbra, na transição do séc. XX para o séc. XXI, tomando como referência temporal o período decorrente entre 1980 e 2011. Com vista à concretização deste objetivo, foram envidados todos os esforços para a obtenção da mais completa recolha de informação, inventariação de repertório gravado pelas Bandas Filarmónicas – e registado na Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores – e sua subsequente análise. A motivação para este objeto de estudo residiu na tentativa de fazer alguma luz sobre os principais quesitos correlativos ao processo gradativo de mudança do repertório e ao modo como estas questões influenciaram a evolução do próprio conceito de Banda Filarmónica, conservando, a despeito dos constrangimentos de natureza diversa, a essência da sua emanação popular. Esta aparece abundantemente espelhada em incontáveis artigos e relatos encontrados em jornais locais publicados a partir do final do séc. XIX. A compreensão do processo da mudança de paradigma assenta, essencialmente, na demonstração quantificada, com base nos registos fonográficos, da evolução das características do repertório, designadamente da diversificação, da proeminência e do declínio dos diferentes géneros musicais, tipos de composição (originais/transcrições/arranjos) e sua origem (portuguesa/estrangeira). O estudo permite concluir que o repertório de concerto das Bandas Filarmónicas sofreu alterações que podem ser classificadas como profundas no que respeita a todos os aspetos em análise.

This research work aims to study the representation of Portuguese music in the repertoire of civic wind bands and their evolution in the districts of Aveiro and Coimbra, in the transition of the XX century for the XXI century, taking as time reference the period between 1980 and 2011. In order to achieve this objective, we made every effort to obtain the most complete collection of information, repertoire inventory recorded by civic wind bands - and registered at the Portuguese Authors Society - and its subsequent analysis. The motivation for this study is based in an attempt to shed some light on the main questions related with the gradual process of the repertoire change and how these issues influenced the evolution of the concept of Civic Wind Band, preserving, despite the nature of diverse constraints, the essence of his popular emanation. This appears abundantly mirrored in countless articles and reports found in local newspapers published from the end of the XIX century. Understanding the paradigm shift process is essentially based on quantified demonstration, based on sound recordings, changes in repertoire features, including diversification, of the prominence and the decline of the different musical genres, types of musical composition (original / transcriptions / arrangements) and its origin (Portuguese / foreign). The study concludes that the concert repertoire of the Civic Wind Bands suffered changes that can be classified as deep with regard to all the analyzed aspects.
