Professor do ensino básico: representação social de si e da profissão

Abstract

Os professores são pessoas que sofrem influências, deixam-se influenciar e influenciam os outros. São detentores de crenças e de imagens que vão construindo e reconstruindo num dado contexto, a escola, que tem características e dinâmicas próprias. Todas as escolas são iguais e diferentes e ali coexistem distintos actores sociais interagindo e estabelecendo relações de proximidade ou de afastamento. O que pensará este profissional da educação, hoje, sobre o que é ser professor? Quais as representações que os professores têm deles próprios? Estas foram as questões que orientaram o nosso estudo. Para compreendermos quais as imagens que os professores do ensino básico detêm de si próprios, abordámos os conceitos de representação social, identidade, professor e profissão. Estudámos uma escola no litoral do distrito de Aveiro, onde inquirimos os professores sobre o que pensavam sobre professor, profissão, identidade docente e trabalho docente.

ABSTRACT: O Teachers are people who suffer influences, who are influenced and who influence others. They are the holders of beliefs and images that they build and rebuild within the school context, which has its own characteristics and dynamics. All schools are equal and at the same time different and there you find the coexistence of distinct social actors interacting and establishing relationships of proximity or of distance. What does today’s teaching professional think about what it is to be a teacher? What representations do teachers have of themselves? These are the questions that guided our study. To understand what images compulsory education teachers (teaching 6 to 14 year-olds) have of themselves, we studied the concepts of social representation, identity, teacher, and profession. We studied a school in the coastal area of the Aveiro district, where teachers were asked about what they thought about being a teacher, profession, teaching identity and work.
