Tradução e validação da EAT-10 e da FOIS para o português

Abstract

Com o decorrer do envelhecimento da população a prevalência de morbilidade aumenta, aumentando, também, a percentagem de ocorrência de acidentes vasculares cerebrais (AVC). Uma das consequências do AVC é a ocorrência de disfagia. Existem mundialmente, várias escalas que permitem avaliar o grau de severidade desta disfunção. Apesar de já existirem várias escalas para avaliação da disfagia, há, no entanto, grande escassez no que refere à tua tradução e validação para a Portugal. A Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10) e a Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS) são escalas de aplicação rápida e simples, sem ser necessário recorrer a uma avaliação funcional prévia. A escala EAT-10 permite facilmente aceder só à auto-perceção da disfagia, como com base nisso confirmar a sua gravidade e limitações que causa da vida social e emocional dos utentes. A escala FOIS permite muito rapidamente a classificação da gravidade da disfagia, o que permite uma rápida intervenção individualizada e direcionada para as necessidades do utente em específico, impedindo consequências mais graves na saúde do indivíduo. O objetivo deste trabalho é contribuir para a tradução e validação cultural das escalas EAT-10 e FOIS para a população portuguesa. Os resultados deste trabalho demostraram que a versão portuguesa da EAT-10 apresenta uma consistência interna razoável (0,75), uma concordância entre observadores razoável (0,22) e boa validade discriminante (p=0,00). A versão portuguesa da FOIS apresenta boa concordância entre observadores (0,78) e igualmente uma boa validade discriminante (p=0,00). Assim, pode-se concluir que as versões portuguesas da EAT-10 e da FOIS apresentam características psicométricas o que parece indicar uma boa aplicabilidade nos contextos de disfagia causada por acidente vascular cerebral.

Due to the population ageing phenomenon, a rising prevalence of morbidity in the older age groups of the population is observed, resulting in a greater percentage of occurrences of strokes, and a large number of these originate dysphagia occurrences. Across the world, there are many scales for assessing the severity of dysphagia. Although there are many scales for assessing dysphagia, few exist that are translated and validated to be used in Portugal. The Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10) and the Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS) are scales of quick and easy application, without the need of a prior functional assessment. The EAT-10 scale allows to easily access only the self-perception of dysphagia and assessing its influences on the patient’s social and emotional life. The FOIS scale is able to quickly classify the severity of dysphagia, which allows for a rapid and individualized intervention, targeted to the needs of the patient, preventing more serious consequences on the health of the individual. The objective of this work is to contribute to the cultural validation of the EAT-10 and FOIS scales for the Portuguese population. The data produced by this work shows that the Portuguese version of EAT-10 presented a reasonable internal consistency (0,75), a reasonable inter-rate reliability (0,22) and a good discriminant validity (p=0,00). The Portuguese version of FOIS presented a good inter-rate reliability (0,78) and also a good discriminant validity (p=0,00) Thus, it can be concluded that versions of the EAT-10 and FOIS present psychometric properties which would indicate a good applicability in the context of dysphagia caused by stroke.
