This work analyses the potential of the software 2Dmove, from Midland Valley, to carry out restoration of geological and seismic sections. This software is then applied to the restoration of a seismic section from the Beaufort Sea, in northern Canada. The different tools and procedures available in this software are described in detail and several application case studies, included in the tutorial, are analyzed in detail. This analysis allowed obtaining important information concerning the various methodologies for restoration and how to use the various algorithms available in the software, but it also showed how it allows tackling complex geological situations and getting useful results for hydrocarbon reservoir prediction. A bibliographical review of the geology and geodynamical evolution of the Canadian Margin of the Beaufort Sea allowed a much better understanding of the processes involved in the study area and proved essential to the restoration of the seismic section. It also allowed establishing a correlation between the seismic stratigraphic units identified on the seismic section with the cronostratigraphic units established in the literature. The detailed analysis of the geometry and character of the seismic reflections within the seismostratigraphic units allowed the identification of the temporal relationships between the deposition of the sedimentary units and the movement in the faults. The application of the 2DMove in the restoration of the seismic section allowed reconstructing the main tectono-sedimentary events, taking into account the decompaction of the geological section after the removal of the overlying layers and correcting for the associated isostatic adjustments. The results obtained, not only confirmed the occurrence of the compressive pulses known from the literature but also suggest the existence of a possible additional compressional pulse in the Lower Oligocene, not previously identified. Further studies are necessary to confirm this possibility.
