industrialização no século XVIII e posterior expansão mundial no século XIX,
características e à escala ¼ do real.
Earth is the oldest building material in the world, adobe masonry was used especially in the hot and dry regions of the globe, but with the beginning of the industrialization in the XVIII century and consequent world expansion in the following century, these earth based architectural techniques have been slowly abandoned and replaced by the so called noble materials, such as concrete, steel and masonry of ceramic bricks. The buildings constructed with adobe masonry, when properly built, become very tough and its inside very chill, supporting high temperatures very well. In regions with hot and dry climate there are large variations of temperature, with intense heat during the day and very cold temperatures at night. The thermal inertia granted by adobe masonry reduces those variations inside the building to a minimum. The results of an experimental campaign carried out during the summer, with three test cells in adobe masonry, with different characteristics and at a quarter of the real scale, are presented in this work. A new view of architecture and engineering over sustainability in the construction industry, can’t leave aside this building technique because in this matter there is no other material that has smaller environmental impact than adobe, because of its low levels of energy needs, and therefore its low levels of harmful gases emissions (like greenhouse gases). |
