This work proposes a system for monitoring movements of the various parts of a multi-body platform. The study aims at making possible the use of multiple inertial sensors in order to calculate the differences in velocity and acceleration between them and then acquire the relative movements between the several parts of a multi-body platform. Initially we conducted a study of inertial sensors in general and another on the sensors that are available in the laboratory. In the next phase a survey on the state of the art is carried out. The next step begins with the correction of two problems in the gyroscope data and the exploitation of the application of a Kalman filter in the raw data in order to reduce the sensors noise. After minimizing the noise it’s time to process the data of the gyroscopes in order that they allow the acquisition of the relative motion of a joint through the integration of angular velocity and various geometric transformations. With the acceleration acquired by the accelerometers it will be possible to obtain the absolute angular position of all the Euler angles, although one of the angles it’s requires specific conditions. The sensors and the algorithm of the differential systems have been tested in various conditions, including resting state and dynamic state with simple movements, on the surface, and complex movements in space. In both cases the algorithm of the inertial systems proved to be strong and effective. |
