Abstract: Depth-sensing cameras are opening new applications in scientific and commercial fields. It leverages the use of infrared projected images, which can measure the depth of the scene and hence offer a three-dimensional view of the captured scene. In this paper, we investigate the performance of visible light communication with a camera-based receiver attached to a robotic arm and show that it offers a high position accuracy. The results also show that, the luminous intensity of the illuminance surface has insignificant impact on the z measurements within the applicable distance range of the RGB-z depth camera, and hence this may be incorporated in any VLC system designed to provide a depth estimation as well as data communication.
