Abstract: The accuracy of received signal strength (RSS)-based visible light-based positioning system in the indoor environment is constrained by the multipath nature of the channel. In this paper, the impact of transmitter (Tx) topology and Tx tilting angle on the accuracy of RSS-based VLP are investigated by considering the multipath environment. Two estimation algorithms are used, linear least square and nonlinear least square, and we show that (i) the Txs topology may have a significant impact on the positioning accuracy, in which the L-shape structure achieves the highest accuracy without considering any Tx tilting angles compared with triangular and diagonal shape structures; and (ii) the use of a triangular shape structure with Tx tilting angles offer the minimum positioning error compared with other structures.
