Relatório de estágio em coordenação de ensaios clínicos no CHUC, E.P.E.

Abstract

No âmbito do Mestrado em Gestão da Investigação Clínica, foi realizado um estágio curricular em Coordenação de ensaios clínicos, no Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra. Este estágio teve como objetivos aplicar o conhecimento teórico obtido no primeiro ano do Mestrado e adquirir experiência em Coordenação de ensaios clínicos, em ambiente hospitalar. No primeiro capítulo, o presente relatório, apresenta uma caracterização da instituição de acolhimento, seguido de uma contextualização do estado da investigação clínica em Neurologia em Portugal e dos objetivos do estágio. De seguida, encontram-se descritas as atividades realizadas. Aborda-se, inicialmente, o conhecimento geral necessário obter antes de iniciar as atividades de coordenação, e seguidamente o conhecimento específico dos ensaios clínicos. Nesta secção estão descritas as atividades realizadas enquanto estagiária em Coordenação de ensaios clínicos realizadas na área de Neurologia. No segundo capítulo encontra-se uma revisão da literatura acerca dos ensaios clínicos de fase I realizados a nível global, e, mais pormenorizadamente, em Portugal, assim como uma reflexão crítica relativa aos dados encontrados. O final do relatório contém uma discussão, onde são debatidas as dificuldades e desafios encontrados durante o estágio, e a conclusão, onde é referida a importância de um Coordenador de estudos clínicos na Investigação Clínica. Assim, o estágio curricular contribuiu para a aquisição de competências, tanto a nível profissional como pessoal, conhecimento e experiência suficientes para começar uma carreira profissional na área da Investigação Clínica.

Within the scope of the Master´s in Clinical Research Management, a curricular internship was carried out in Coordination of clinical trials, at the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra. This internship aimed to apply the theorical knowledge obtained in the first year of the Master´s and to acquire experience in the coordination of clinical trials in a hospital environment. In the first chapter, this report presents a characterization of the host institution followed by a contextualization of the state of clinical research in Neurology in Portugal and the objectives of the internship. Then, the activities carried out during the internship are described. Initially, the general knowledge necessary to obtain before starting activities is addressed, and then the specific knowledge of clinical trials. This section describes the activities carried out during the internship in Coordination of clinical trials in the field of Neurology. The second chapter contains a review of the literature on phase I clinical trials in the world, and, in more detail, in Portugal, as well as a critical reflection on the data found. The end of the report contains a discussion, where the difficulties and challenges encountered during the internship are discussed, and the conclusion, where the importance of a clinical trials Coordinator in clinical investigation is mentioned. Thus, the curricular internship contributed to the acquisition of skills, both professionally and personally, sufficient knowledge and experience to start a professional career in the field of clinical research.
