Abstract: At the end of the industrial capitalist era, a “post-industrial” period, a new society of “services” or “free time” arises, in which information acquires a central value. In this society, the production of information supersedes the production of goods, becoming the leading consumer good and, increasingly important, assuming the role of promoter of the new economy, in which whoever dominates information dominates the world. It is in this context that the expression Information Society1 emerges, an operative term primarily used by sociologists to describe the socio-economic impacts of new information and communication technologies, highlighting the importance that information holds for the successful development of organizations. Indeed, the success of organizations is related with the efficiency and effectiveness of the use of information in their daily lives and with their ability to store and retrieve it.
