Abstract: If we attempt an investigation into national and international filmography, on themes linked to the sea, maritime activities, fishing and cod fishing, we perceive the existence of numerous records, namely “Heróis do mar” (1949) by Fernando Garcia. To establish a relevant museum collection, some actions were developed. The production of the Cine-Concerto “Heróis do Mar”, in partnership with the Orquestra Filarmónica Gafanhense and some actors of the community, under the artistic direction of Alexandre Sampaio, is an example. It highlights the audacity and commitment that lies behind the event. In order to recover a heritage of undeniable value, Hugo Pequeno and Nuno Miguel Costa have an important role in its recreation. Thus, and in order to obtain a sound for the film, given that the original soundtrack was lost, the collaboration of Henrique Portovedo, João Martins and the Orquestra Filarmónica Gafanhense was requested. So, it is our intention to reflect on its creative process by describing its stages and analyzing its final product, especially regarding the creation of a new soundtrack and the entire sound process carried out within the scope of a community project, highlighting the importance of sound in the construction of a diegesis of the film image.
