impactos significativos tanto a nível regional quanto nacional. Ao nível regional,
o foco deste trabalho, o turismo impulsiona o crescimento económico, sustenta
diversos empregos e incentiva o desenvolvimento de infraestrutura. No entanto,
visitado.
turismo. Tourism plays an important role in the Portuguese economy, with significant impacts at both regional and national level. At the regional level, the focus of this paper, tourism drives economic growth, sustains numerous jobs and encourages infrastructure development. However, in order to promote the positive impact of tourism and even optimize it for the coming years, spatiotemporal data analysis is of considerable value. The aim of this study was to analyze mobile phone data, which records the mobility patterns of the resident and non-resident population. This analysis showed that the length of stay of visitors in each location is heterogeneous and varies according to the origin of the visitor and the characteristics of the place visited. Spatial autocorrelation analysis revealed the existence of clusters of "hotspots" and "coldspots" in terms of the number of visitors per freguesia. These clusters of coldspots could be potential areas for investment in the tourism sector. Statistical modeling revealed a positive association between the number of visitors to the region and the occurrence of national public holidays, the existence of train lines in the parish, weekends, parishes with concentrations of historical sites and tourist attractions. It should be noted that the variable that had the greatest expected impact on the number of visitors was the occurrence of national public holidays, its expected impact increasing significantly with the length of the visit, 6.1% for short visits (up to 1 hour), 13.3% for medium visits (between 1 and 4 hours) and 26.1% for long visits (more than 4 hours). The analyses can provide another solid basis for the Intermunicipal Community of Viseu Dão Lafões to make decisions based on real data. This study, by exploring the temporal and spatial factors that influence tourism in the Viseu Dão Lafões region, provides a contribution to filling this need for territorial knowledge generation and management in the context of tourism. |
