The evolution and modernization of society depends on the demographic oscillations of the regions and the pace of innovation, allowing adequate accessibility to existing services and infrastructures. This need and the comfort of the population give rise to the appearance of new waste and by-products. Current European Commission reports present statistical data on waste generation by sector, based on the annual evolution of the countries of the European Union member states. After checking the reports, it can be concluded that the sector that stands out with the highest percentage is infrastructure. Road pavements are part of the road infrastructure that serves the various communities. They are responsible for the socio-economic development of the regions, as well as the environmental impacts that influence the ecological footprint on planet Earth. This dissertation develops the theme of sustainability in the design and production of road pavements, with emphasis on the reclaimed asphalt pavements and incorporation of waste and by-products. Both methodologies reduce environmental degradation, providing a reduction in the extraction of raw materials from nature, as well as the disposal of large amounts of waste in landfills. In order to understand the current reality, a literature review on the incorporation of waste and by-products was performed, since there is a high multiplicity and diversity of materials that can be applied in road pavements. There is also a need ascertain the constraints on material performance, as well as the aggregate-aggregate and aggregate-binder interaction, for subsequent production and verification of the properties of bituminous mixtures. |
