Abstract: | O objectivo desta tese é o estudo aerodinâmico e o cálculo estrutural
The objective of this thesis is the aerodynamic study and the structure’s calculation of a light aircraft’s wing at cruise speed. In order to accomplish this objective we have chosen one of Redbul Air Race aircraft model because the information about the average flying altitude and maximum speed allowed is available. In this competition there are two types of aircrafts, the Zivko Edge 540 and The MXS-R. We have chosen the most used aircraft in this competition, the Zivko Edge 540. The first stage of our study was the characterization of the wing’s optimized profile with the help of PROFILI 2.27c software. This software, through previously defined variables (stringer, altitude and speed) provides a chart and several graphics referring to the sustainability coefficient, grab force and momentum in the aerodynamic centre of each profile and the most relevant dimensions for its drawing, thus giving us the chance to combine profiles. After having found the best profile from root to tip, we combined them to analyze the wing in small elements in order to get the profiles across the wing. Having done this, it’s now possible to calculate the sustainability forces, grab and momentum of each of the elements that we had decomposed the wing in. We continued the aerodynamic study and we got the real sustainability of the wing, as well as the minimum speed required for the aircraft to keep itself in a straight and leveled flight. The following stage was to design the internal structure of the wing in order to achieve the best correlation rigidity/mass, excluding however the first frequency vibration mode of the engine operating excitation. This procedure should be followed even when considering that the fuselage may soften the transmission of the engine’s amplitude to the wing, thus having less impact on the wing’s vibration. Besides these dynamic actions, the wing has to endure the pressure and momentums generated during the flight and a force equivalent to 10G, i.e., ten times the weight of the aircraft with its pilot and fuel. |
