No
A empresa PrecisionElite,
Cork, a material with very special characteristics that cannot be synthetically produced, is considered the material of choice for the manufacture of stoppers in the cork industry. The function of stoppers is to seal the wine bottles, allowing only a very small amount of oxygen to pass through, so that the properties of the drink are not affected. Generally, in the quality control of stoppers, only the tightness test was used to verify whether the stoppers were capable of sealing liquids. However, this method is limited as only 24 stoppers can be analysed in each test. In order to overcome this barrier, companies have begun to use automatic selection machines that enable samples to be analysed continuously and at greater speed. The company PrecisionElite, which recently acquired a model of these machines, and showing interest in optimising the selection process, proposed the topic for a Master's dissertation. The objective of the present dissertation is to discover the ideal selection tolerance to be seted in the machine at industrial level. As a reference it is known that the stoppers considered to be sealing stoppers by the manufacturer have a tolerance of less than 200. For this purpose, after collecting the selected stoppers from the machine, two tests were performed: determination of the internal and external progression and absorption of wine (during real bottling at room and high temperature) and the leak test. The aim of the first test was to evaluate the behaviour of the stoppers, when bottled, in two different environments for subsequent comparison with the results of the leak test. To analyse the results, cluster analysis was used to infer whether there are similarities between stoppers considered to be closures and stoppers considered not to be closures. After organising the data, it was concluded that the ideal tolerance for the types of stoppers chosen is 250. As a proposal for future development, some image processing techniques were studied in order to improve the efficiency of the quality management process. |
