As viaturas
A principal geografia
Nowadays, it is increasingly important to reduce the consumption of resources and the emission of pollutants. The transport sector is one of the biggest responsible for the emission of polluting matter, but also one of the sectors that our lifestyle depends the most. Vehicles powered by ICE continue to represent more than 90% of the automotive fleet, also continuing to be dominant in the sale of new vehicles. It is therefore important to study alternative fuels that mitigate their ecological footprint, while promoting a gradual transition to fully sustainable mobility. This study aims to analyze the incorporation of biofuels in conventional fuels, with a special focus on diesel vehicles, whose transition process to clean energy proves to be more complex and time-consuming, especially in terms of long-distance heavy vehicles. The processes for obtaining biofuels and their production, the sustainability of their production, the technical and environmental limitations to their expansion, as well as the associated legislation and environmental ambitions are all analyzed. The main geography under study is the Portuguese territory, but a continuous parallelism with the European reality is made. Through a global analysis, the impacts of several external and internal factors to biodiesel are evaluated, identifying challenges and opportunities to its penetration in the energy market. Biodiesel obtained from waste materials such as Used Cooking Oil (UCO) is a sustainable fuel with serious potential to assist Portugal in meeting its environmental targets. |
