Modelação matemática no ensino secundário: um estudo de caso com alunos do 10º ano

Abstract

O estudo em causa tem como objetivo analisar as estratégias utilizadas por um grupo de alunos quando estes são confrontados com a modelação matemática, sendo que a investigação se foca nas estratégias que quatro estudantes de uma turma do 10º ano utilizam na resolução de um problema de modelação matemática de contexto real. Para a realização do estudo formulou-se a seguinte questão de investigação: “Qual a atividade desenvolvida por alunos do 10.º ano de escolaridade quando confrontados com um problema de modelação matemática?”. Considerando a questão a investigar, foi realizado um estudo de natureza qualitativa e o problema de modelação aplicado no estudo faz parte de uma competição internacional denominada International Mathematical Modeling Challenge, mais conhecida por IM2C. Os dados recolhidos incluem produções escritas dos alunos, nomeadamente relatórios de resolução do problema proposto, e ainda registos do questionamento oral. As questões orais e algumas observações realizadas pelo investigador foram registadas no diário do investigador. Do estudo realizado, pode concluir-se que os alunos foram bem-sucedidos na resolução do problema, utilizaram a estratégia da utilização de gráficos na calculadora gráfica e da programação em Pyton. As etapas de resolução de um problema estiveram presentes na resolução do grupo e foram mobilizados diversos conteúdos, nomeadamente as funções lineares.

The main goal of this investigation is to analyse the strategies used by a group of students when they are confronted with mathematical modelling, and the research focuses on the strategies that four students from 10ᵗʰ grade class use in a real context problem of this kind. The purpose of the study is based on the question: “What is the activity developed by 10ᵗʰ graders when faced with a mathematical modelling problem?”. Considering the question to be investigated, a qualitative case of study was conducted, and the problem applied on the study is part of an international competition called International Mathematical Modelling Challenge, better known as IM²C. The data was collected with written productions of the students, including reports on the resolution of the proposed problem and questions made in conversations between the investigator and the students. These conversations were recorded in the investigator’s journal. From this study, it was concluded that the students were successful in the task of solving the problem. The students used the strategy of using graphs and programming in Pyton. The stages of solving a problem were there in the group resolution and a variety of contents were mobilized, especially linear functions.
