A “fala” é a voz das mulheres: textos e contextos do feminino em Manhouce (1938-­‐2000)

Abstract

Partindo de dois textos sobre essencialidades do género feminino, relativos a uma aldeia no norte de Portugal, publicados em 1938 e 1990, respectivamente, proponho: 1) uma reflexão sobre “fala”, um atributo associado ao canto, que definiu a sexualidade da mulher em Manhouce e os espaços de interlocução propiciados pela música; 2) a análise do percurso da solista Isabel Silvestre que disseminou um conjunto de competências musicais – que em Manhouce definiam a subalternidade da mulher em relação ao homem -, na indústria da música associada ao folclore e ao pop/rock. Discuto, também, razões que justificam a persistência de ideias de essencialidade, no que se refere às representações da mulher, em Portugal.

Drawing on two texts about essentialities of the feminine gender which are relative to a village in the north of Portugal and were published in 1938 and 1990 respectively, I propose: 1) A reflexion on “fala”, an attribute associated to singing, which defined women’s sexuality in Manhouce and also the spaces of interlocution provided by music; 2) the analysis of the path of the soloist Isabel Silvestre, who disseminated feminine musical competences- that in her village defined the subaltern position of women in relation to men – on stages and in the music market both of folklorization and pop/rock. I also discuss the reasons that might justify the persistence of ideas essentiality in what refers to the representations of women.
