Compreensão Auditiva (CA) no TL-ALPE.
negativos no desenvolvimento infantil.
The present study aims to analyse the association between family functioning, the use of electronic devices and language development at the semantic and morphosyntactic levels in pre-school aged children. Language acquisition is influenced by environmental factors and is promoted by more stimulating and facilitating environments. In the past few years, there has been an exponential increase in the use of electronic devices. Delayed language development may be related to the increase in screen time exposure. Families play a key role in the child's development and in moderating the use of these devices. A cross-sectional descriptive-correlational study with a sample of 93 participants was conducted. Data collection included a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Portuguese version of the FACES-IV, a questionnaire on electronic device use, and the application of the Oral Verbal Expression (OVE) and Auditory Comprehension (AC) subtests of the TL-ALPE. The results were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. In FACES-IV, the results show that, overall, families are characterized by being cohesive and flexible and with low levels of rigidity, disconnection, entanglement, and chaos. There were also high levels of communication and moderate levels of family satisfaction. As for the children's use of electronic devices, the findings show a greater tendency to use smartphones, tablets and television between 0 and 3 hours a day. Regarding language, the results show an average score of 98.09 ± 16.8 in OVE and 97.41 ± 19.56 in AC in TL-ALPE. Statistically significant correlations were observed between OVE and AC scores and the cohesion, satisfaction, and disconnection subscales; between OVE and AC scores and time of use of smartphone, tablet, and computer; between cohesion, flexibility and satisfaction, entanglement, and chaos scores and children's time of use of some electronic devices (smartphone, tablet, television, and video games). This research showed that children with more cohesive family functioning and good levels of family satisfaction scored higher on the OVE and AC subtests of the TL-ALPE and that children with greater family disconnection scored lower on these subtests. It was also noted that the use of some electronic devices (smartphone, tablet and computer) is associated with the scores in both OVE and AC subtests and that the number of hours spent using these devices (more or less than 1 hour) is also associated with the scores of the language assessment subtests. In conclusion, the use of electronic devices can have either positive or negative impacts on child development. Parents should be informed about the impact of the use of these devices on child development and find a balance between usage and leisure time. |
