ABSTRACT: This year 2009 celebrates 500 years of Portuguese-Chinese first diplomatic relations and contacts, 30 years of re-stablishment of bilateral relations and 10 years since the smooth administrative transition of Macau to China. The history of relations between the two countries are long and close. Now-a-days, China is home to one of the largest markets worldwide with a growing middle class hungry for consumption. Its large low cost workmanship allows the relocation of business’s value chains and the possibility of purchasing low cost products and raw materials. The market opportunities, along with greater openness and clarity in FDI’s legislation in China, dramatically increased the number of foreign companies perating in that market. However, despite its history of special relationship, the Portuguese investment in China remains inadequate. With the chosen investigation method, we were able to give voice to investors with trade relations with China and assess their attitudes towards this market. We can conclude that companies do not take a high degree of compromise with the Chinese market and the majority does not hold offices in China. By their experience, it was found how Portuguese companies may include China’s potentialities in their business strategies maximizing the benefits and opportunities that Chinese market has to offer. | por |
