componentes miniaturizados, em diversos sectores industriais, incluindo a
No presente
Micro-machining operations have proven essential in the manufacture of miniaturized components in several industrial sectors, including microelectronics and the biomedical sector. These processes are frequently selected by these industries due to their high dimensional accuracy and surface integrity, including low roughness, less proneness to burr formation and surface defects in the components obtained. In the present work, micromilling studies were developed in two titanium alloys with biomedical application, the Ti-6Al-4V alloy and the Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy. The main purpose of the work was to understand if under the same micromachining conditions it would be possible to produce machined surfaces with similar characteristics in terms of surface finish (Ra and Rt), micro texture and burr formation. This need was linked to the fact that the Ti-6Al-4V alloy has in its chemical composition the Vanadium element, which is highly toxic to the human body, as the Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy has a microstructure and mechanical properties comparable to the Ti-A6l-4V alloy, it may be a potential candidate in the manufacture of biomedical components. Thus, micromilling tests were performed on the two alloys, using 3 levels of feed per tooth (0.001, 0.003, 0.006 mm/tooth) and 2 two levels of radial increment (0.1 and 0.05 mm) and compared to machined surface in terms of surface finish, which was evaluated through a rugosimeter that allowed extracting two descriptors (Ra and Rt) from the roughness profile, but also through optical microscopy, in order to assess the morphology of the channels that were machined. For the conditions tested, Ra varied between 0.12 [u]m (increment 0.05 mm) and 0.73 [u]m (increment 0.1 mm) for the Ti-6Al-4V alloy and between 0.16 [u]m (increment 0.05 mm) and 0.76 [u]m (increment 0.1 mm) for the Ti-6Al-7Nb alloy. For both alloys, the existence of burr and tool wear was almost non-existent. |
