O suplemento ao diploma: análise da tradução e identificação de unidades multilexicais

Abstract

O trabalho tem por tema o Suplemento ao Diploma, considerado quer como género textual, quer como objeto de tradução especializada. Procede-se à apresentação da história do documento, à descrição das características estruturais e linguísticas e à comparação com outros documentos que cumprem funções semelhantes. Importa também apontar as diferenças linguísticas que estes documentos podem apresentar, decorrentes de aspetos sintáticos próprios das línguas portuguesa e inglesa. O estudo analisa dificuldades e problemas de tradução, que decorrem principalmente da necessidade de explicitar diferenças culturais e da diferença linguística. Descrevem-se as especificidades do documento que devem ser mantidas no processo de tradução e apontam-se problemas de tradução encontrados. Incluem-se os dados da análise computacional de um corpus bilingue paralelo, tendo em vista a identificação de unidades multilexicais relevantes para a tradução de terminologias.

This work focuses on the Diploma Supplement, considered both as a textual genre and as an object of specialised translation. We present the history of the document, describe its structural and linguistic characteristics, and compare it with other documents fulfilling similar functions. It is also important to point out the linguistic differences that these documents may present, arising from syntactical aspects proper to the Portuguese and English languages. The study analyses translation difficulties and problems, which arise mainly from the need to make cultural differences explicit and from linguistic differences. We describe the specificities of the document that must be maintained in the translation process and points out translation problems encountered. includes data from the computational analysis of a parallel bilingual corpus, with a view to identifying relevant multilexical units for terminology translation.
