(Q2223 = 1160KJ/mol), e do cuprato estável "14/24" (Q14/24 = 428KJ/mol).
Polycristalline fibers of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O were grown by the laser floating zone (LFZ) method. The effects of pulling rate on phase composition and morphological texturing of the fibers was studied. The kinetics of phase transformation during isothermal annealing at 800-880°C was correlated to the superconducting properties of the transition of electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility to the superconducting state, the total diamagnetic phase volume fraction and critical current (Jc). The nominal composition corresponding to the Bi2Sr2Ca2CU4O11 (Bi-"2224") was selected as the starting composition in order to obtain high yield of the high temperature (110K) phase, the Bi-"2223" superconducting phase. The LFZ process in known for the great potential to prepare highly oriented textures of phases. The way it works in high Tc superconductors is not fully understood yet, due to the effects of peritetic melting of superconducting phases. In fibers grown by the LFZ method, the plane a-b of the orthorrombic phases tends to lay parallel to the fiber long axis in high proportions. Chemical analysis of composition profiles showed segregation along the fiber axis. The ranges of the most significant effective distribution coefficients of segregated elements are 0,60 < kBi < 0,72 and 1,59 < kCa < 1,64. k is close to unity for the Sr and Cu elements. All values of k converge towards k≈1 at high pulling rates. Bi segregation leads to building up of a diffusion layer 21μm thick (δ≈21μm) just at the front of the liquid/ (Bi-"2201" + Bi" 2212") phase crystallization interface. The following values of the average diffusion coefficient of the cations were calculated from the dynamics of segregation: DBi = 1,2x10-10 10m2 /s, DSr = 2,7x10-10m2/s e DCa = 1,28x10-9m2/s. The extent of segregate on, that is changed by the pulling rate, sets favourable conditions for constitutional supercooling in the liquid ahead of the solid/liquid interface and promotes dendritic growth with flat surfaces of the Sr0,3Ca0,7CuO2, ("1/1 "), primary phase. The LFZ technique is shown to be adequated to create the full crystallization path in the quaternary phase diagram of the system from the melt to the last crystallizing phase. Preferential orientation of the superconducting phases in relation to the primary dendrites due to a set of geometrical relationships between the lattice constants of the Bi-" 4413" constituent and those of the "1/1" cuprate is observed, the Bi-"4413" grains being nucleated on the plane a-b surfaces of the "1/1" dendrites. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) showed that the Bi-" 4413" constituent is the intergrowth of Bi-"2201" and Bi-"2212" superconducting phases. The effects of pulling rate, R, on phase volume fractions were followed by X-ray diffraction and quantitative stereological analysis of area on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. It shows that the volume fraction of "1/ 1 ", non-superconducting phases, increases at high pulling rates. The study of dendritic growth and branching for 1,11x10-6 m/s < R < 4,17x10-6m/ s revealed that the interdendritic spacing decreases as R-1/2 and that dendrites become bulky and have less branches as R increases. Phase transformation during isothermal anneals of the LFZ fibers for 800°C≤T≤880°C are described by the parabolic law equation of t1/2, being controlled by diffusion. The values of the activation energy that were calculated with the parabolic law equations are Q 1/1 = 215KJ/mol for dissolution of the "1/1" primary phase and Q2212 = 196KJ/mol, Q2223 = 1160KJ/mol and Q14/24 = 428KJ/mol, for crystallisation of "2212", "2223" and "14/24" respectively. The Bi-"2212" phase growths from existing domains of this phase inside the "4413" constituent, as the "4413" grains react with the "1/1" dendrites and become enriched in Cu and Ca during the isothermal annealing. In similar way, for T above 850°C the Bi-"2223" phase is stable. It nucleates and grows as Cu and Ca enriched domains inside the grains of the superconducting matrix and it also follows the parabolic law equation of t1/2. The coupled effects of microestrutural texture and superconductor phases volume fraction on electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and critical current have proven that higher fiber pulling rates are not limiting the values of Jc if the fiber growth is followed by isothermal annealings. Fibers that were grown at the fastest pulling rate of 4,17x10-6m/s have low diamagnetic signal after annealing but give the highest values of Jc, 120A/cm2 at 77K. The effect is correlated to the morphology of the "1/1" dendrites, the mechanisms of heterogeneous nucleation of the superconductor phase precursor and narrowing of interdendritic spacings at high pulling rates. |
