),
The main goal of this report is to evaluate the feasibility of the processing of materials for their use in thermoelectric modules through the Laser Floating Zone technique. The materials we synthesized, processed and analysed in the lab were delafossites: pure (𝐶𝑢𝐹𝑒𝑂2 ) and doped with Nickel (𝐶𝑢𝐹𝑒0.98𝑁𝑖0.02𝑂2 ). The processed samples underwent structural analysis (X-ray powder diffraction and Scanning Electronic Microscopy) and their electric properties were measured (Seebeck coefficient and resistivity). XRD showed that the amount of residual phases diminished with the decrease of the processing velocity, although it increases with the addition of the Ni doping agent. Through SEM/EDS it was clear that the alignment of the fibres increased with both the doping of the samples and the decrease in the processing velocity. For temperatures above 200 ºC the samples’ thermoelectric efficiency improves with Ni doping, except in the case of the ones processed at a 25 mm/h velocity. This quantity improves for all the temperature domain with de decreasing of the LFZ processing velocity. The maximum PF of 0.62 𝑚𝑊𝐾 −2𝑚−1 was obtained on the 𝐶𝑢𝐹𝑒0.98𝑁𝑖0.02𝑂2 sample grown at 10 mm/h at a temperature of 450 ºC. |
