A cultura nas autarquias : práticas e consumos de música na Região das Beiras

Abstract

Esta dissertação pretende estudar o investimento feito pelas autarquias na área da cultura, e determinar especificamente o investimento realizado na área da música clássica e que factores determinam a elaboração da agenda cultural das autarquias da região centro de Portugal. Tendo em consideração o contexto geral de produção e consumo de música clássica nesta região, este estudo focaliza a orquestra regional – Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, e a sua relação com o poder central e local, assim como as prioridades e práticas das entidades locais considerando o investimento feito neste domínio. Com base dos resultados obtidos, recomendamos a extensão das actividades culturais a um maior número de pessoas, e a promoção da música clássica como actividade cultural.

ABSTRACT: This dissertation aims to examine the investment made by local authorities in the cultural domain, and specifically to determine the extent of the investment made in classical music and the issues which lie behind the cultural agenda in the towns and cities of the centre of Portugal. Taking into account the general context of production and consumption of classical music in this region, our study is centred on the regional orchestra – the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, and its relationship with central and local authorities, as well as on the priorities and practices of local authorities regarding investment in this domain. On the basis of our findings, we recommend the extension of cultural activities to a larger number of people in this region, and the promotion of classical music as a cultural activity.
