Temas e motivos chineses nos livros para crianças de José Jorge Letria

Abstract

O presente trabalho propõe-se a analisar a presença dos elementos chineses que existem na literatura infantil portuguesa, através do estudo de O Menino Eterno e Contos da China Antiga, duas obras de José Jorge Letria, salientado a importância do contacto entre os dois países na literatura infantil. Tomando em consideração as representações de elementos chineses, quer nos textos, quer nas ilustrações, procura-se refletir sobre o seu significado simbólico e sobre a forma como se veiculam aspetos da cultura chinesa através dos livros para crianças, sublinhando alguns dos mais recorrentes, colaborando na construção de uma determinada imagem da China junto dos leitores mais pequenos. Finalmente, refletimos sobre questões ligadas à publicação da literatura infantil em Portugal e na China.

The present study aims to analyse the presence of Chinese motifs in Portuguese children's literature, through the reading of O Menino Eterno and the Contos da China Antiga, two books by José Jorge Letria, emphasizing the importance of the contact between the two countries in children's literature. Taking into account the representations of Chinese elements, both in the texts and in the illustrations, it is our purpose to reflect on their symbolic meaning and on how these aspects of Chinese culture are transmitted through children's books, highlighting some of the most recurrent, collaborating in the construction of a particular image of China among young readers. Finally, we reflect on issues related to the publication of children's literature in Portugal and China.
