"A escalada do Dragão" e a nova rota da seda : a China em Portugal

Abstract

O presente trabalho pretende dar um contributo para o estudo das relações diplomáticas, culturais e empresariais atuais entre a República Popular da China e Portugal, incluindo uma reflexão sobre as implicações futuras destas relações entre duas culturas intrinsecamente tão distintas. A crescente presença da China em Portugal que evidencia-se em diversas áreas, designadamente num substancial aumento de investidores chineses em diferentes segmentos e setores de mercado (energia, banca, equipamentos de saúde, seguradoras, imóveis, entre outros) e na proliferação de Institutos Confúcio afetos às principais universidades portuguesas, mas financiados principalmente pelo Governo chinês, onde se promove o ensino do Mandarim e se difunde a cultura chinesa. Outro aspeto relevante é a recente ligação aérea direta entre Portugal e a China, estabelecida em 2017, o que permitiu uma maior proximidade entre os dois países e que poderá facilitar a integração do porto de Sines na Nova Rota da Seda.

The present work intends to make a contribution to the study of current diplomatic, cultural and business relations between People's Republic of China and Portugal, including a reflection on the future implications of these relations between two intrinsically distinct cultures. This dissertation focuses on the growing presence of China in Portugal that is evident in several areas, namely a substantial increase of Chinese investors in different market segments and sectors (energy, banking, health equipment, insurance companies, real estate, among others), as well as the proliferation of Confucius Institutes assigned to the main Portuguese universities, but mainly financed by the Chinese Government, where the teaching of Mandarin is promoted and Chinese culture is spread. Another relevant aspect is the recent direct air link between Portugal and China, established in 2017, which allowed a higher proximity between the two countries and that could facilitate the integration of the port of Sines in the New Silk Road.
