Design para a mudança da conotação negativa das máscaras de saúde

Abstract

Esta dissertação surge da perceção do impacto que o estigma tem na vida do Homem e para a sua posição no mundo, com foco particular na vivência da criança oncológica no uso da máscara de proteção da saúde. Estes são pontos de conteúdo do presente documento considerados significativos para o bem-estar e harmonia da sociedade moderna, visto que, na atualidade, presenciamos um maior contacto com a singularidade humana. O presente estudo propõe uma reflexão sobre os actos discriminatórios e de preconceitos, a diversos níveis, paralelamente com a continua manifestação pela igualdade e diversidade. Reflete-se sobre a capacidade dos artefactos, que muitas vezes constroem a imagem corporal e identidade do indivíduo, serem os alvos de estigmatização que contribuem para a consequente adversão à pessoa que os suporta. Neste contexto, pretende-se analisar e enquadrar a problemática associada ao estigma da criança oncológica, com base na revisão da literatura e através do contacto com a população do estudo, com o recurso a inquéritos e entrevistas. Seguidamente, a identificação e caracterização dos produtos disponíveis no mercado com complemento para a consequente redefinição do papel do design, não só na mudança de comportamentos, mas também na criação de produtos, que respondam às necessidades técnicas, igualmente como às necessidades sociais. Com génese na repercussão da utilização das máscaras de saúde pelas crianças oncológicas foi proposto uma nova abordagem, a qual tenta criar uma nova linguagem, eliminando as conotações negativas. As opiniões recolhidas no final do trabalho, mesmo que diminutas, suportam o potencial positivo da solução e da importância do papel do design como mais valia para o bem da sociedade.

This dissertation arises from the perception of the impact that stigma has on human life and its position in the world, with a particular focus on the experience of the oncological child in the use of the mask of health protection. These are points of content of this document considered significant for the well-being and harmony of modern society, since, at the present time, we are witnessing a greater contact with the human singularity. This study proposes a reflection on discriminatory acts and prejudices, at various levels, in parallel with the continuous manifestation of equality and diversity. It reflects on the ability of products, which often construct the body image and the individual identity, being the targets of stigmatization that contribute to the consequent adversity of the person who supports them. In this context, it is intended to analyze and frame the problem associated with the stigma of the oncological child, based on the literature review and through the contact with the study population, through the use of surveys and interviews. Next, the identification and characterization of the products available on the market with a consequent redefinition of the role of design, not only in changing behaviors, but also in the creation of products that meet technical needs as well as social needs. With genesis in the repercussion of the use of health masks by oncological children, a new approach was proposed, which tries to create a new language, eliminating the negative connotations. The opinions gathered at the end of the paper, although in small number, support the positive potential of the solution and the importance of the role of design as an added value for the good of society.
