This work was developed in the field of Foreign Languages Didactics, more specifically in Didactics of Plurilingualism, with the nuclear aim of understanding what knowledge and skills the students acquire from activities related to IC through the analysis of picturebooks. It is an action-research project, developed in a curricular English class, in the first years of formal education. The work starts by addressing the place of Plurilingual and Intercultural Education in European educational policies, by problematizing the concept of Intercomprehension and, afterwards, by investigating the potential of intercomprehension practices in language teaching in the first years of learning. As categories of analysis, we have defined "knowledge of linguistic culture" and the "transparency strategies", trying to understand which skills and knowledge the students have acquired through the resource to intercomprehension strategies in the reading of picturebooks. The analysis of the data collected and the interpretation of the results show that the students were able to mobilize knowledge of linguistic culture, which they already had and / or developed throughout the project, as well as to activate strategies of interlinguistic comparison, such as the resource to image and to written transparency, to interpret texts in several foreign languages. We also conclude that intercomprehension activities allow the development of plurilingual competence, stimulating the ability to understand texts from different linguistic codes, through inferential operations of interpreting iconic and verbal data in an interrelated way. |
