Criação e implementação de um livro de peças para tímpanos com play along

Abstract

O ensino dos tímpanos assume um papel de grande relevância na aprendizagem de um percussionista, sendo considerado um dos instrumentos centrais sobre o qual é focado o ensino da Percussão erudita. No entanto, este instrumento é, pelo que tenho observado, menosprezado pelos alunos em fases iniciais da aprendizagem, devido à falta de repertório que existe para este nível de ensino. No início do estudo da Percussão, devido aos baixos recursos técnicos e musicais dos alunos para tocarem peças a solo, é comum os professores recorrerem a Play Alongs, de forma a tornarem as apresentações públicas mais agradáveis para o público e mais motivantes para os discentes. No entanto, a quase inexistência de repertório deste tipo para tímpanos, leva a que os alunos iniciantes raramente toquem este instrumento em audições, começando a fazê-lo apenas numa fase mais adiantada. Sendo as audições um importante fator de motivação para um aluno se dedicar ao estudo de um instrumento, o facto de não tocarem inicialmente tímpanos nas apresentações públicas leva a que este instrumento seja, em regra, menosprezado. O trabalho desenvolvido neste projeto procura ajudar a colmatar essa lacuna do ensino da Percussão, acrescentando 10 obras com suporte de áudio à literatura do instrumento, direcionadas a alunos do ensino básico. Estas peças foram implementadas por 13 alunos do autor da tese, juntamente com outros 6 alunos de dois professores que colaboraram com a investigação. Através de inquéritos, tentámos perceber se estas peças com suporte de áudio tiveram efeito nos alunos ao nível da motivação para a prática deste instrumento. Procurámos também perceber se o estudo destas peças potenciou o desenvolvimento musical dos alunos, no que concerne a: interiorização da métrica musical, controle da pulsação, desenvolvimento da capacidade de afinação, técnica e musicalidade, fatores estes que acreditamos poderem ser melhorados através da prática de música com Play Alongs.

The teaching of Timpani plays a very important role in a percussionist’s learning, being considered one of the central instruments on which is focused the teaching of the erudite Percussion. However, this instrument is, as I have observed, overlooked by students in the early stages of learning, due to the lack of repertoire that exists for this level of education. At the beginning of the Percussion study, due to student’s low technical and musical resources to play solo pieces, it is common for teachers to use Play Alongs, in order to make public performances more enjoyable for the audience and more motivating for students. However, the almost inexistent repertoire of this type for Timpani, leads to the beginning students rarely play this instrument in auditions, beginning to do so only at a later stage. Since auditions are an important motivation factor for a student to study an instrument, the fact that they do not initially play timpani in public performances means that this instrument is usually underestimated. The work developed in this project seeks to fill this gap in Percussion teaching, by adding 10 works with audio support to the literature of the instrument, aimed at primary school students. These pieces were implemented by 13 students of the thesis author, along with 6 other students from two professors who collaborated with the research. Through surveys, we try to understand if these pieces with audio support had an effect on the students in the motivation for the practice of this instrument. We also sought to understand if the study of these pieces strengthened the musical development of students, in what concerns: interiorization of musical metrics, control of the pulsation, development of tuning capacity, technique and musicality, factors that we believe can be improved through the practice of Music with Play Alongs.
