A Contrução das Relações entre a República Popular da China e a União Europeia

Abstract

Este projecto pretende examinar o estado actual das relações entre a República Popular da China e a União Europeia. Pretende identificar e esclarecer as linhas mestras e o desenvolvimento dessas relações, especialmente a partir do final da década de 1980, centrando-se nos assuntos chave de interesse nas relações RPC – UE. O estudo apresenta uma comparação da importância que tanto a RPC como a UE atribuem à sua relação no âmbito da sua política externa e contrastar os interesses predominantes de ambas as partes. Procura também identificar um modelo explicativo dessas relações. Esse modelo será aplicado a uma análise das relações no passado recente, que pode ser derivado para uma análise/ previsão do futuro das relações RPC – UE.

The aim of this study is to examine the current state of relations between the People’s Republic of China and the European Union. It intends to identify and explain the major trends and developments of these relations, especially from the end of the 1980s onwards, focusing on key issues of interest in the PRC – EU relationship. It will try to compare the importance that both the PRC and the EU attribute to their mutual relations and contrast the main interests of both parties. It will try to present a model to define the nature of these relations. That model will be tested by applying it in an analysis of developments in the relations in the (recent) past. If the model proves successful when applied to developments in the past, it might be able to be used to forecast future developments in the relationship between these two major players in the international arena.
